BCI condemns rampage at Red Fort by agitators during Republic Day Tractor Rally [Read Press Release]


On Tuesday, the Bar Council of India has issued a Press Release condemning the rampage that took place on Red Fort on Republic Day during the Tractor Rally.

The farmers protesting at the borders of Delhi had sought permission to March accross a predecided with their tractors to mark their agitation against the Farm Laws 2020.

Notably the whole sequence took a violent turn when a group of Farmers marched towards Red Fort and clashed with Police and Security personnels,

The BCI in its press release has taken a strong exception to the incident. It noted:

"We strongly condemn the acts of violence, vendalism and treason comitted on Republic Day by anti-social and anti-national elements disguised as Farmers. The Acts of scarilege of the Red Fort Podium and National Flag, which are symbol of pride, honour and sovereignity of the country are upardonable."

The BCI Chairman and Sr. Advocate Manan Kumar Mishra has called for booking of all those who were involved from politicians, abbetors to instigators.

Further, it has also called on the Farm Leaders who failed the promise made to Delhi Police to keep the march under check and asked them to call off the agitation on morality ground.

Nonetheless, the BCI has asked the Delhi Government to fix responsibilty on security failures. It noted:

"It is astounding to see that despite advance intelligence reports, no proper security arrangements were made at the Red Fort to prevent the entry of these elements who succeeded in scaling the ramparts of the Red Fort and put the whole country to shame."
